Five-star reviews are won or lost on turnover day. A guest won't notice the fresh roll of paper towels, but they will notice when there isn't one. Here's a room-by-room checklist, plus the supplies worth keeping stocked so you're never running to the store between check-out and check-in.
The turnover checklist
Work top to bottom and dry to wet in each room: dust and wipe high surfaces first, then counters, then floors last, so you're never re-cleaning something you already did. Start a load of linens the minute you walk in so the washer runs while you clean.
🛏️ Bedrooms
- Strip beds and start laundry first
- Check under beds and in drawers for left items
- Dust nightstands, lamps and headboards
- Make beds with fresh linens; fluff pillows
- Restock tissues on nightstands
🛁 Bathrooms
- Toilet: bowl cleaner inside, disinfecting wipe outside
- Scrub shower, tub and sink; wipe fixtures dry
- Clean mirror streak-free with microfiber
- Fresh towels, bath mat and hand towel
- Restock toilet paper (plus a spare), soap and toiletries
🍳 Kitchen
- Run or unload the dishwasher; put everything away
- Empty the fridge of guest leftovers
- Wipe counters, stovetop, microwave inside and out
- Swap in a fresh sponge and dish towel
- New trash bag; restock paper towels and dish pods
🛋️ Living areas + final walk
- Wipe remotes, light switches and door handles
- Vacuum and mop, back to front, toward the exit
- Take out all trash and recycling
- Check Wi-Fi card, house manual and thermostat
- Snap photos of each room for your records
How much to keep on hand
A simple rule: stock each space for the stay, then keep enough backup in the owner's closet for several more turnovers. Adjust for your guest count and length of stay.
